New Special Cigars
This trademark was released by the Cuban state company Habanos SA in the year 1966. It was the first to be released after the Revolution and it was meant to be a less expensive alternative to the Montecristo products. The initial target of this line was the French market that later on expanded to the entire wolrd. Ironically, in spite of their name, these Cuban cigars were not the ones that the dignitaries used to resort to during official meetings. Despite their early purpose, that of making an affordable Montecristo, Diplomaticos conquered a lot of faithful lovers that prefer them to the others and the affordable label has long been removed and replaced with that of high quality Cuban cigars. They are one of the very few Habanos lines that still create exclusively hand- made cigars. The initial line had five sized cigars, numbered from one to five, that corresponded to the Montecristo line. Later on, two numbers more appeared on the stage, but their production ceased in the 1980s. Both Diplomaticos and Montecristo are produced at the Jose Marti Factory, and the strength of the Diplomaticos is generally evaluated as being medium to strong, anyway milder than that of the cigars from the Montecristo line. They differentiate from the other cigar lines for the incredible savors and the very special tobacco and flavors blend, that makes them quite unique. The most appreciated from the range is Diplomaticos 4, a cigar that has lived up to its name from the moment it was released.
